M & S Donahue, Gurnee, IL – honoring our men in service

I have a wonderful story for you.  In fact, you might say it’s a couple of stories.  I am so proud of my husband and every time he does this, it brings tears to my eyes.

Whenever we are in a fast-food restaurant, regular restaurant, coffee shop, etc., and he sees one or a group of our servicemen in uniform, he will invariably go up to them to shake their hands, say thank you to them for their service to our country and what they do to protect our freedoms, tells them he will say a prayer for them and their safe return if they are being deployed, and then will pick up their lunch or dinner or coffee checks, no matter how many are in the group.  He does it willingly and lovingly and seeks no return.  I’m sure he’s not even aware of the “Pay it Forward” concept.  He just does it from his heart.

I’ve wanted to share this with the world.  I come from a long line of military men and even though I was a war protester during the Viet Nam war, I never, ever was rude or disrespectful to our service men.  In fact, I was ashamed and embarrassed by those who did.  The general public seemed to forget that these men don’t go over at will, they are ordered to go.  And they just can’t leave if they desire to do so.  So what happened during those times will forever be a scar on our country’s history and hopefully, in some small way, my husband will can, perhaps, erase just a small part of that scar with his kind and generous efforts towards our servicemen of today.

Again, I am so proud of him and I know he would love to see the rest of the population make the same kinds of efforts towards our service men.

  1. Flightline Fabrications recognizes that members of the military community from around the world, both active and veteran are justifiably proud of their experiences and accomplishments. We also wish to recognize those service members and thank them for everything they have done. To often our military community is forgotten and this story is one that we feel is worth echoing. Thank you for “paying it forward”, we too are proud of you for taking the time.
